Water Augmentation
• The water augmentation plan submitted to the Division I Water Court for its concurrence would
require that tributary water be replaced if, and when such water is `balled". Water would be
augmented from the Laramie -Fox Hills well (permit #24650-F).
C
The subsequent planned reclamation of the pits above the water table eliminates to consumptive
use of tributary water at the Keenesburg Mme site. Coors has no plan for further excavation
below the water table. It is therefore Coors' belief that further pursuit of the water augmentation
plan would be inappropriate. The Water Court has concurred with Coors' position and dismissed
the filing of the water augmentation plan as, "no longer required".
Surface water areas continued to exist in B -pit during the early 1990's, and was documented in
annual hydrology reports for those years. With the continuation of reclamation activities,
specifically the reconfiguration of B -pit to accept ash (bottom of pit to at least five feet above the
water table, and clay liner) standing surface water areas were eliminated. Visible areas of standing
water in the pits, at the time of this permit renewal are the result of accumulated surface runoff
trapped on top of the clay liner in the yet to be filled pit void space. Should reclamation
operations be forced to proceed in a manner inconsistent with present plan, the Division will be
appraised and a revised plan submitted for consideration.
59
