DIVISION 2- SITE WORK <br /> SECTION 02100-SITE PREPARATION <br /> PART1-GENERAL <br /> 1.01 WORK INCLUDED <br /> Clearing trees and brush from the slurry wall alignment and stripping upper soil layer to prepare for <br /> placement of new impervious fill. This work will be performed by the Owner. <br /> PART 2-NOT USED <br /> PART 3-EXECUTION <br /> 3.01 GENERAL <br /> The Contractor and Engineer shall provide the Owner with information regarding the extent of clearing <br /> required in accordance with this section and the intent of the contract documents. <br /> 3.02 CLEARING AND GRUBBING <br /> The area to be occupied by the permanent construction required under these specifications and the surfaces <br /> of all borrow pits,stockpiles,and fill areas shall be cleared of all trees,stumps,exposed roots,brush, <br /> rubbish,and other objectionable matter. <br /> 3.03 STRIPPING <br /> The fill areas shall be stripped to a depth of 6"or to a sufficient depth to remove all unsuitable materials. <br /> The unsuitable materials to be removed by stripping shall include all surface boulders and loose rock, <br /> debris,topsoil,vegetable matter,including stumps and roots,and all other perishable and objectionable <br /> materials that are unsuitable for use in permanent construction required under these specifications or that <br /> might interfere with the proper bonding of the embankment with the foundation,or the proper compaction <br /> of the fill materials,or that may be otherwise objectionable. <br /> 3.04 DISPOSAL <br /> Materials from clearing operations shall be stockpiled on the property at a location approved by the Mine <br /> Site Superintendent. <br /> Waste piles shall be located where they will not interfere harmfully with the natural flow of the stream and <br /> drainage channels,with construction operations in the borrow areas,or with the operation of the reservoir. <br /> Waste piles shall be leveled and trimmed to reasonable regular lines. <br /> 3.05 EXISTING UTILITIES <br /> The Contractor shall protect all existing utilities from damage during construction activities on the site. <br /> Any damage to utilities shall be reported to the Owner,QA Personnel and the Engineer within one hour of <br /> the time the damage occurred and in writing within 24 hours of the time the damage occurred. The <br /> Contractor shall contact the owner of the utility and coordinate repairs that limit the time the utility is out of <br /> service. <br /> The Contractor shall initiate contact with all utilities near the slurry wall to coordinate procedures and <br /> allow time to schedule a utility representative is available during work near the utility. <br /> Utilities crossing the slurry wall alignment shall be encased in reinforced concrete,with approval of the <br /> utility owner,as shown on the construction plans.
