LIST C <br /> Common mullein - Verbascum thapsus <br /> Common mullein, often mistaken as a native plant, is a biennial plant <br /> that originated in Eurasia. It can be found in disturbed areas, preferring <br /> dry, stony soil. It reproduces by seed, which can remain viable in the <br /> soil for over 80 years. <br /> Identification: <br /> • Flowers: Sulfur yellow, saucer-shaped, attached to stem. <br /> • Leaves: Oblong, hairy, with a rounded tip. <br /> • Stems: Erect, rigid up to 6 feet tall covered with wooly hairs. <br /> Control Methods: <br /> Biological: No insect biological control available. <br /> Mechanical: Easy to pull before flowering due to shallow taproot. <br /> Bag and dispose of plants to prevent spread of seeds. <br /> Chemical: <br /> Chlorsulfuron: Apply in spring at rosette stage before bolting <br /> or in fall to rosettes. <br /> *2,4-D Picloram: Apply in spring at rosette stage before bolting <br /> or in fall to rosettes. <br /> *Picloram: Apply in spring at rosette stage to early growth <br /> or in fall to rosettes. <br /> Metsulfuron: Apply in spring or fall to rosettes. <br /> * Restricted-use chemical <br /> 56 <br />
