Preliminary Report for Data Recovery at Sites MK -1-082317 and MK -2-082317 Colowyo Coal Company
3.2.3.4 Feature 5
Feature 5 is semi -circular dark stained sediment with sparse charcoal flecking and HAIR
measuring approximately 32 cm north to south by 37 cm east to west (Figures 20 and 21). Actual
top of the feature is unknown. However, the feature appears to be approximately 15 cm below
ground surface. The size and location of the feature within the site grid system necessitated one
1 by 1 m unit being established to investigate it.
The feature's depth below the mechanically exposed surface is 8 cm below the 165N 192E unit
datum. Overall feature shape appears to be roughly circular in planview with an irregular lenticular
profile. Mechanical scraping potentially removed the western edge of the feature. Feature fill
consisted of dark stained sediment (10YR3/1, Very Dark Gray) with moderate dense charcoal
flecking. Several unaltered rocks are also included in the feature fill. One piece of HAIR in the 10
to 5 cm diameter size class (0.5 kg) was recovered in the northeastern end of the feature. The
HAIR is deteriorated sandstone breaking into several angular fractured pieces.
f , W
Ik i Asia
t F
r
V ...
4
i s
Figure 20.
