PERMIT#: M-2003-002
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS:ECS
INSPECTION DATE: September 26,2017
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine monitoring inspection conducted by Eric Scott of DRMS. Mr.James (Doug) Branch
represented the Operator/Permittee (HCR High Country Repair). The Ghost River Gravel Pit is a 9.9 acre 110c
sand and gravel operation located in Huerfano County, approximately 4 miles east of 1-25 (Exit 64) off County
Road 110. The required site identification sign was posted near the site entrance (Photo 1).
Although there has not been extensive activity at the site in recent years, there was mining and loading
activity taking place at the time of this inspection. Several product stockpiles were present, and new
excavation was occurring during the inspection (Photos 2-3). DRMS would like to remind the permittee that
the rule requires that all existing topsoil should be salvaged and maintained for use in reclamation activities as
new areas are disturbed for mining. Care should also be taken to make sure that all mining related
disturbance remains within the permit boundary—especially in the loading area near the site entrance.
Mining activity was following the approved plan, and only two issues were noted during the inspection that
will require corrective actions at this time.
1) Removal of trash that was observed near the south permit boundary near the site entrance. See
attached Photo 4.
2) Replacement of the missing SW corner permit boundary marker. The SE marker may also be slightly
too far south at this time. (see included map)
These issues have been identified on the first page of this report along with the required corrective actions
and corrective action due dates. No other issues of concern were noted during this inspection.
Inspection Contact Address
James Branch
HCR High Country Repair
2632 McCormick Ave.
Pueblo,CO 81001
