Whitewater Building Materials Corp. WW 500 PIT
Permit# M-1977-129 2017 Annual Report
22-September-2017
Notes:
Please refer to Map 1 of 2 and Map 2 of 2 when reviewing the following
information. The effective date of all information is August 17, 2016
8. An additional 14.50 acres was stripped in Stage 4 - Part A in the southwest part of the Stage
(yellow). The stripped material was moved to overburden was used to backf ill along the working face
on the west and north sides of the mined area. The minor amount of growth medium salvaged was
placed on the existing stockpile in the northeast part of the area that covers 2.84 acres. The growth
medium along the north side of Stage 3 - Part B remains undisturbed. This berm serves two purposes,
as a growth medium pile that will be used to reclaim the area and a MSHA safety berm. We estimate
there is approximately 48,000 yards of stored in Stage 6 (not on map), another 20,000 yards stored
in Stage 3 - PART B (brown)and 48,000 yards in Stage 4 - Part A. These piles are in a constant state
of flux with material being added and removed as needed. The settling ponds are still being used to
clean process water (dark blue).
9. In Stage 3-Part B there is 31.00 acres of future lake area that needs little reclamation since it will
be covered with water and an 18.11 acre portion of the mined area in Stage 4 - Part A will be lake area
also. No additional reclamation was required. We will continue to monitor the area seeded in Phase 2,
west of the southern plant site and do remedial seeding if necessary (Page 2 of 2). Seedling
Cottonwood trees and Willow are beginning to grow on the seeded area as nature begins to help with
reclamation.
10. Mining continued on the western side of Stage 4 - Part A, this year (south of the railroad). The
mined material was staged in the area mined in Stage 3 - Part B before being moved to the plant for
processing. If needed, stripping will continue to the east in Stage 4 -Part A.
11. We are still placing overburden along the edges of the lake areas that are in their permanent
locations until the final grade is reached. Approximately 3.25 acres was filled this year in Stage 4 -
Part A
13. Weed control continued this year in the disturbed areas around Phase 2 and Stage 3 - Part B. We
sprayed Knapweed and White Top from May thru June 2017 with water soluble 2-4-D and Curtail and a
mowing program is also used to aid in control. We still face the problem of little or no control taking
place on properties surrounding the mine and seed is being wind blown in from off site areas that we
have no control over. Spraying will continue as needed. We continue to monitor Tamarisk growth on
the site and do control work as warranted.
16. The mine has an approved Augmentation Plans for all of the post 1981 lake areas.
21. Please refer to the 2017 Annual Report Maps for location of the areas of disturbance in the mine.
