Amendment Application
Permit M-1982-200
Red Jasper Granite
Exhibit D Revised Reclamation Plan
The reclamation plan is aimed at attaining a surface that blends with the
surrounding land, is safe for wildlife, and vegetated for wildlife grazing. At the
time of reclamation, all equipment and supplies will be removed, and all
stockpiled material will be removed or spread/backfilled. Highwalls will be
reduced either by cut and fill, or blasting to rubbleize them, to reclaim to the
approved maximum final reclamation slope gradient.
This area is notable for its many natural granite outcrops, which are not covered
by soil and do not support woody or range vegetation. As each new mining area
was opened limited, varying amounts of topsoil and overburden were
encountered. During mining, all "pockets" of topsoil were salvaged as much as
practicable, to be spread in certain limited areas during reclamation.
Due to the potential variability in volumes of the future materials that may be
encountered during mining (reject material, overburden, and growth medium
materials), the operator cannot closely estimate the amount of backfilling, grading,
or other reclamation earthwork that will occur in relation to the amount of phased
mining that is carried out. The operator can commit to no more than 4 acres of
unreclaimed permit area at any one time.
Any overburden or granite rubble remaining onsite after mining concludes will be
hauled directly to unreclaimed highwalls for slope reduction. After rough grading
the site, to remove any impoundments and eliminate unstable highwalls, the
topsoil will also be moved directly to the specific areas being revegetated. It is
anticipated that much of the post -mining surface will be roughened granite.
Successful revegetation could require up to 24 inches (minimum) of topsoil over
granite, or 12" over broken rock. All areas that appear possible to revegetate will
receive topsoil. We estimate that we can topsoil and revegetate up to 2 acres.
At or near the conclusion of the final areas mined, the following areas and
features will be reclaimed: interior roads ripped and graded, remaining stockpiled
materials hauled for backfilling or graded in-place to the appropriate slope, all
stockpiles of topsoil hauled and spread on specific disturbed areas, and seeding.
The operator does not wish to revise the current approved seed mix, and we will
continue to follow the existing noxious weed monitoring and control plan.
Reclamation equipment anticipated to be used will include 10 -yard dump trucks,
3 -yard wheeled loader (Cat 950 size), Cat D9N dozer with semi -u blade and
single tooth ripper. Typical pushes average 80 yards on level surface.
