21

Other than the three sedimentation ponds, no impoundments are proposed for
construction in conjunction with the NHN operation (4.05.9).

G. Surface and Ground Water Monitoring

ERMR has established a surface water and groundwater monitoring program that will
gather baseline and operational water quantity and water quality data in order to
monitor the effects of the proposed mining operation on the surface and subsurface
water which is within or adjacent to the permit area. The Hydrologic Monitoring Plan
is described in Section 2.05.6(3)(b)(iv) of the permit document.

1. The groundwater monitoring plan is included in Appendix 2.05.6(3)-3 and the
field and laboratory parameters to be analyzed are provided in Tables 1 and 3 of
that section. ERMR established baseline data for twelve shallow bedrock wells
identified as GW-N47 through GW-N58. The monitoring well locations are
shown on Map 2.04.7-1 in Section 2.04.7 Hydrology Description. ERMR
sampled and analyzed for field and full suite laboratory parameters starting in
October 2008 and has continued collecting monthly field and quarterly full suite
samples since that time to establish the baseline data. These wells GW-N47
through GW-N58 will continue to be monitored according to the plan given in
Appendix 2.05.6(3)-3. No alluvial groundwater monitoring is proposed for the
site. No alluvial wells were installed due to the lack of alluvium within the
permit area.

2. The surface water monitoring plan is discussed in Section 2.05.6(3)(b)(v) of the
permit. The list of parameters to be analyzed is located in Appendix 2.04.7 -2.
The monitoring plan will be used to identify any trends in water quality or
quantity that would indicate any negative impact from the proposed mining and
reclamation operations. The monitoring plan was submitted under
2.05.6(3)(b)(iv) and includes the following (4.05.13(2)):

Site
Name Location Frequency Parameters
SW-
N200
Downstream 2nd Park Lateral
at 26 Road CC Ditch
Crossing
Monthly field parameters,
bi-monthly lab analysis
Appendix Table
2.04.7-2
SW-
N201
Downstream 2nd Park
Sublateral Tailwater near
Garvey House
Monthly field parameters,
bi-monthly lab analysis
Appendix Table
2.04.7-2
SW-
N202 Downstream Meehan Draw Monthly field parameters,
bi-monthly lab analysis
Appendix Table
2.04.7-2
SW-
N203 Downstream Glasier Draw Monthly field parameters,
bi-monthly lab analysis
Appendix Table
2.04.7-2
SW-
N204 Upstream Glasier Draw Monthly field parameters,
bi-monthly lab analysis
Appendix Table
2.04.7-2
