Damage had occurred to the Final
East Pit Ditch. Damage from this storm was primarily confined to this permanent drainage, in Reach 1 and Reach
2. Both EP2 and EP1 were holding water. The operator had pumped water from the stock tanks into the drainage
in order to be able to begin repairs. The South Collection Ditch had been cleaned of sediment to allow water from
the Final East Pit Ditch to flow freely into the South Collection Ditch to Prospect Pond. The operator had
regraded and pushed rock back into the easternmost (bottom) approximately 100-125 feet of channel. This repair
has occurred in the eastern extent of the ditch to just east of the confluence of Final East Pit Ditch and North
Tributary East Pit Ditch. The lower portion of ditch has been constructed in the unconsolidated East Pit backfill.
Water is seeping from EP1 into the drainage. The inspector discussed ideas to anchor the unconsolidated material
underneath the permanent drainage to attempt to reduce the potential for this type of damage to occur in the future.
Other suggestions included keying gabion check dams into a reconstructed drainage. The Division will continue
to document repairs to this area.

DOCUMENTS RECEIVED NA
OTHER (SPECIFY) NA
ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS/COMPLIANCE

No enforcement actions were initiated as a result of this inspection. The Division continues to evaluate
the construction and damage to the Final East Pit Ditch as a result of the Division’s July 28, 2017
inspection.
