Graypoktt soils are on nearly <br />WM to moderately sloping &Nuvkd fens. Slopes are 0 to <br />9 percent. The mean annual precipitation is about 7 <br />tnche% and the mean annual air tamperah re Is about 41 <br />degrees F. <br />Graypoint spits are similar to the San Arcacio soils and <br />are now the Derrick, Dunul, Sart Arcado, and Platom <br />soils. Derrick and Draw( sols aro more than 35 percent <br />gravel and cobbles thmugftout. San Arcedo and Plage <br />soda are more them 20 Inches deep over sarid and gravel <br />layers, end San Arcade sops are only moderately wed <br />drained and have moderate salt accumulations. <br />Typical pedon of Graypoint gravelly sandy loam. 0 to 1 <br />percent slopes, about 700 feet south and 860 feet went <br />of the northeast comer of sec. 5. Gravel content <br />ranges from 10 to 35 percent In the r Qw part of the <br />proft and Is dominantly one-quarter inch to 3 inches in <br />diameter. <br />SOIL SUR':E <br />Derrick series <br />The Derrick series consists of deep, wail drained softs <br />that forted in very gravelly and cobbly alkMum over <br />sand. gravel, and cobbles. Derrick soils are on alluvial <br />fans and terraces. Slopes are 0 to 10 percent. The mean <br />annual air temperature is about 41 degrees F. and the <br />mean annual precipitation is about 7 inches. <br />Oerrick soils are near the Graypoint, Dun ul, and Pla- <br />toro soils. Graypoint soils have finer tenures and fewer <br />cobbles in the upper part of the sol prorde. Duron soils <br />aro gravelly sandy loam in the upper part of the profile. <br />Platoro sods have a day roam B2t horizon that is less <br />than 35 percent coarse fragments. <br />Typical pedon of Derrick very cobbly sandy loam. 0 to <br />1 pacerd slopes. 150 feet south and 50 feet east of the <br />northwest coater of sec. 31, T. 36 N., R. 8 E.; <br />At -0 to 5 inches; pale brown 110YR 813) very cobbly <br />dandy loam, da<1r brown VOYR 413) moist; weak <br />fine granular structure; hard. very friable: about 20 <br />percent gravel and 20 percent cobbles. mildly alka- <br />line; dear wavy boundary_ <br />82t-5 to 12 inches: yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) vary <br />gravelly clay loam, dark yellowish brown (10YR 414) <br />most weak madiurn prismatic atn,cture parting to <br />moderate medium subangular blocky; hard, firm; <br />very thin patchy clay films on pads; about 30 per- <br />cent gravel and 20 percent cobbles; mildly alkaline; <br />dear wavy boundary. <br />Clca-12 to 17 inches; fight brownish gray (10YR 612) <br />very cobbly sandy loam, darts grayish brown J10YR <br />4/2) moist; massive: slightly hard, friable; about 30 <br />percent gravel and 40 percent cobbles; visible sec- <br />ondary calckrm carbonate occurring in titin seems <br />and as coatings on undersides of cobbles; calcars - <br />our.; moderately alkaline; clear wavy boundary. <br />RC2 -17 to 60 inches; vary gravelly sand; massive; soft. <br />very friable; calcareous with thin coatings of calcium <br />carbonate on undersides of coarse fragments in <br />upper part of the horizon; moderately alkaline. <br />Depth to calcareous material ranges from 6 to 20 <br />incites. Depth to unconformable sand and gravel ranges <br />from 11 to 20 inches.
