Basil Bear
Page 2
7/20/2017
The 2016 AHR supports the predictions in the Probable Hydrologic Consequences (PHC) of the
Bowie No. 1 Mine Permit. The following is a review of the 2016 data as per the PHC:
The Bowie No. 1 Mine is in permanent cessation and conducting reclamation activities.
TR -61 approved the permanent suspension of several water monitoring locations at the Bowie
No. 1 Mine. TR -61 was issued on September 20, 2016; therefore, no 4th quarter monitoring was
conducted on the locations affected by the revision. A list of the monitoring locations affected
by TR -61 can be found in Table 1 of the 2016 Annual Hydrology Report.
Noted in the report, Spring 10-10 had a pH value of 9.1 in May of 2016. The flow measured at
the point was 0.938 gpm. The high pH value may be due to the low flow. The spring was
recorded to be dry during the rest of the year. Monitoring Location SW -05, Steven's Gulch, was
missing lab data taken in the 2"d quarter. Parameters that were missing include: Acidity, Sulfate,
Calcium (dissolved), Iron (dissolved), Iron (total), Magnesium (dissolved) and Manganese
(total). Please provide the reasoning why these parameters were not included or taken.
Monitoring location SW -06, East Roatcap Creek -Downstream, did not include any lab results for
the parameters to be tested. Please provide this information or an explanation of why
samples were not taken quarterly as outlined in Table 1 of the 2016 AHR.
2016 Mine Inflow Report:
4.05.13 The Mine Inflow Report for 2016 meets the requirements of Rule 4.05.13. There were
no observed or reported inflows due to the mine portals being sealed.
2016 Annual Subsidence Report:
Through the approval of Technical Revision No. 45 and No. 57 the subsidence monitoring plan
for the Bowie No. 1 Mine was reduced and then suspended. During the 2016 calendar year, no
monitoring was required. The Subsidence Monitoring Report for 2016 meets the requirements of
Rule 2.05.6(6).
This concludes the Division's review of the 2016 Annual Hydrology Report, Mine Inflow Report
and Subsidence Monitoring Report for the Bowie No. 1 Mine.
