4 <br /> Assessment of Potential Pollutant Sources and Control Measures <br /> The following site conditions and control measures were observed during a <br /> site visit on March 23, 2017. <br /> Suspended silt may be introduced into storm water flow from active mine <br /> faces, raw material, fines, product and topsoil stockpiles and processing equipment. <br /> Mining equipment may leak or spill petroleum into storm water flow. The mining area <br /> is a depression at the top of the mesa. Storm water will flow down the hillside <br /> toward the stock pond. Native vegetation will treat the storm water as it flows <br /> toward the stock pond. <br /> Gravel and dirt roads may contribute silt and petroleum contaminants to <br /> storm water flow from vehicles and equipment using the roads. Roads are compacted <br /> dirt and graveled. Storm water flow on interior roads and the mine floor will flow <br /> down the hillside toward the stock pond, treated by the native vegetation on site and <br /> adjoining ground. In the event of a release onto the roads from equipment or <br /> vehicles, sorbent material will be used to contain and remove the substance from the <br /> site. <br /> Any disturbed area will be mined and graded so that storm water flows onto <br /> the mine and follows the natural topography to the stock pond. Whenever possible, <br /> storm water will be directed to healthy stands of native vegetation that will slow and <br /> treat the water. <br /> Stockpiles are located on the compacted dirt mine floor. Stormwater run-off <br /> flows toward the stock pond. <br /> The processing area floor is graded so that storm water flows toward the <br /> stock pond. <br /> Long term topsoil stockpiles, used for reclamation, may contribute silt to <br /> stormwater flow. When a stockpile will exist for more than two years, it may be <br /> reclaimed with a temporary grass seed mix. Temporary reclamation of long term <br /> stockpiles reduces the likelihood of erosion and is the most effective stormwater <br /> management technique for controlling erosion. <br /> Daily operational refuse is carried off-site and disposed of at a solid waste <br /> facility. The perimeter is inspected as needed for incidental debris. <br />
