3. Accommodation for drainage -Drainage from the pit is confined to the pit area. Initial rills
in the 2014 reclamation have stabilized and no noticeable expansion has been noted. The
current vegetation is able to control erosion by all but the very largest storms.
4. Revegetation- The 2014 revegetation area of 32 acres shows a somewhat more mature
development than last year. But the dry conditions that have prevailed since the start of the
2017 growing season has limited development. The three week wet spell in late May and
early June brought on an explosion of cheatgrass is some areas. But, on the whole, the
vegetation is still considered about where it should be after three years of development. A
new and rather robust electric fence across the upper area of the reclamation has allowed for
better grazing management and that is very useful. Unfortunately, a narrow trail of trampled
ground along the fence has also developed. But that is a small price to pay for better grazing
management. And, as the trail runs across the slope rather than up and down the slope,
erosion along the trail is of no consequence. The trail is not actually wide enough to get any
erosion started. Not sure what happened to the sweetclover patch that was noted last year.
Perhaps it was eradicated or is just too stunted by dryness to be noticeable. Previous erosion
rilling is well controlled now. There are still some active areas, but they are minor.
5. Status of Prior Revegetation Areas-
A. Status of newest seedings as of report date-N/A
E. Status of older revegetation as of report date(describe growth rates, cover, invasive
species, native invasion, and difficulties) - In July 2017, all older revegetation sites
were briefly examined and found to be in excellent condition.
Individual Reclamation Areas: The newest reclamation area was described previously.
F. Description of animal impacts on revegetation: No significant animal impacts
were noted. Grazing appears to be well managed.
WEED STATUS:
1. General overview of weed status on site: Weeds seem to have declined considerably in
the last year, probably as a result of control measures. Spurge seems to be much less and
thistles are much less abundant. Canada Thistle near the plant area is greatly reduced.
Knapweed is still present, but is slightly less than previously seen. Unfortunately, this is a
banner year for cheatgrass, but that is a generalized problem throughout this area.
A. Status of species that have been present in the past: Species of Circium have greatly
declined, although they remain in some areas. They now seem to be of little
consequence. Spurge seems to have declined a great deal, however, riparian areas
were not checked and it is likely still abundant in those areas as this species is
entrenched in those habitats. But compared to what was present 10 years ago, it is a
great improvement. As noted previously, cheatgrass is still abundant all over the
property and seems to have had a"good" year in 2017 as it did in 2016. The
Status report for 2017 due July 15, 2017 Page 5 of 6
