not add to the arsenic levels in the surface water.
The copper concentration in the coal mine waste pile leachate is below detectable
levels. Due to the undetectable level of arsenic in the coal pile leachate, and insignificant
flow, it should not add to the selenium levels in the surface or surface water.
The iron concentration in the coal mine waste pile leachate is 3.1 mg/I. Due to the
insignificant flow of the leachate, flow from the leachate should not increase the iron
concentration in the surface water.
The lead concentration in the coal mine waste pile leachate is below detectable
levels. Due to the undetectable level of lead in the leachate, and insignificant flow, the iron
concentration should not increase in the surface water.
The manganese concentration in the coal mine waste pile leachate is 1.1 mg/I. Due
to the insignificant flow of the leachate, flow from the leachate should not increase the
manganese concentration in the surface water.
The mercury concentration in the coal mine waste pile leachate is below detectable
levels. Since mercury is not present in the coal pile leachate it will not increase the mercury
concentration in the surface water.
The selenium concentration in the coal mine waste pile leachate is below detectable
levels. Due to the undetectable level of selenium in the coal pile leachate, and insignificant
flow, it should not add to the selenium levels in the surface water.
Table N-9 is a summary of the water from the mine when it is discharging. The
maximum flow as previously calculated from the mine alone is 100 gpm (0.22 cfs). It is
important to note, the mine has not discharged any water since June of 2008.
Table N-9
Mine Water Data Summary (mg/1)
AVERAGE
Arsenic
0.015
Copper
0.017
Iron
0.058
Lead
0.075
Manganese
0.033
Mercury
No data
Selenium
0.182
There are no parameters associated with the mine water discharge that are
substantially different than the those present in SW -1 or SW -8 (shown previously in Table
N-8), and therefore, the addition of mine water to East Salt Creek will not have a negative
impact on East Salt Creek.
Appendix N — PR -02 -13- 10/10
