2.04.9 Soils Resource Information <br />The Glendive series is a member of the coarse -loamy, mixed (calcareous), frigid <br />family of Ustic Torrifluvents. A representative profile of Glendive sandy loam, sample <br />point MC10 about 150 feet east and 2,105 feet north of the southwest corner of section <br />21, T 7 S, R 102 W, at an elevation of 5,402 feet is: <br />A11 0 to 4 inches; pale brown (10 YR 6/3) sandy loam, brown (10 YR 5/3) moist; <br />weak thin platy parting to fine granular structure; soft, very friable, non -sticky <br />and non -plastic; calcareous; 1 to 3 percent gravels; many fine and very fine <br />roots; discontinuous peaty layer at 3 to 4 inches; bottom one inch is pink (7.5 <br />YR 7/4); pH 7.6; abrupt wavy boundaries. <br />Al2 4 to 8 inches; light yellowish brown (10 YR 6/4) very fine sandy loam, brown (10 <br />YR 5/3) moist; strong very thin platy structure; soft very friable, non -sticky and <br />non -plastic, calcareous; many fine and very fine roots, common medium roots; <br />bottom 1/4 inch is a thin platy clayey horizon; coal fragments throughout; pH <br />7.5; clear wavy boundary. <br />C1 8 to 19 inches; pale brown (10 YR 6/3) very fine sandy loam, brown (10 YR 5/3) <br />moist; moderate thin platy parting to fine single grained structure; slightly hard, <br />very friable, non -sticky and non -plastic, calcareous; common fine and very fine <br />roots, few medium and coarse roots; at about 16 inches occurs a thin (1 in.) <br />clayey pinkish gray (10 YR 6/2) layer; pH 7.6; clear wavy boundary. <br />C2 19 to 74 inches; variously colored (7.5 YR 7/4, 10 YR 6/3) stratified very fine <br />sandy loam and gravelly loamy sand, brown (10 YR 5/3) moist; massive <br />structure slightly hard to slightly soft, very friable, non -sticky and non -plastic, <br />calcareous; common fine and very fine roots, non -sticky and non -plastic, <br />calcareous; few fine and very fine roots; top 3 to 4 inches is a pink (7.5 YR 7/4) <br />loamy medium sand; at 34 inches is a 2 inch silty layer; other wavy horizons <br />within; pH 8.0. <br />The surface horizon is very fine sandy loam or loam. Peaty horizons occur <br />between 3 and 18 inches. Gravely or very gravelly lenses occur below 40 inches. The <br />control section is mostly fine sandy loam or loamy sand with 1/2 to 6 inch lenses of <br />coarser or finer textures, but clay typically averages 5 to 18 percent. Typically these <br />soils are calcareous throughout, but may be leached to 6 or 8 inches. Rock fragments <br />range from 0 to 15 percent. <br />PR -02 2.04-35 10/12 <br />
