2.04.8 Climatologic Information
The McClane Canyon Mine lies on a west facing slope, 18 miles north of the town of
Loma. The topographic variation in west central Colorado results in marked fluctuation
in the seasonal and average precipitation and temperature for the entire year.
The Bureau of Land Management operates a weather station in Ashford Canyon. The
average annul precipitation over the period 1981 through 2011 is 17.7 inches. This
contrasts with the Grand Junction and Fruita weather stations that have an average
annual precipitation of 9.01 and 8.81 inches respectively. The Ashford Canyon rain
gage is located along SH -139 at about mile post 22 at an elevation of 5,895 feet. The
portals are at elevation 5,610 feet.
