blade has abrasion -resistant steel liners. The blade actuation of all
cylinders are controlled in an open -close mode by a single coil, two-
postition control valve. Limit switches are furnished to indicate
gate open or closed. The gate is equipped with cylinders capable of
opening or closing in less than 2 seconds.
The operator's control house is a steel frame structure situated 11
feet above the floor slab. This location affords the operator a clear
view of the retractable loading chute and railcar identification num-
bers. When the coal in the surge bin reaches its 75 -ton capacity, a
high-level sensor activates a light to indicate a full bin.
Simultaneously, the conveyor is stopped to halt the entry of coal into
the bin. The hydraulic slide gate is then opened by the operator, and
the waiting car is loaded. In the case of failure of the high-level
sensor, an emergency backup sensor is activated.
The chute support structures are of steel frame construction. The
underside of steel over the track is approximately 19 feet, 6 inches
• above the track elevation. On top of these frameworks are areas for
mounting hydraulic accumulators and other equipment for the operation
of the travelling/telescoping chute. A walkway is provided all around
the loadout chute. The walkway is accessible from the loadout floor
by a stairway. The chute is a roll -away telescoping trim type
hydraulically powered to move vertically to allow cars of different
heights and retracting horizontally, perpendicular to track, to allow
for locomotive and caboose passage. The chute has abrasion -resistant
steel liners.
C1
A rubber type seal is provided between the roll -away chute and the
gate. The gate controls are interlocked so that the gate will not
open until the chute is in the open position. Operation of the gate
and chute is controlled from the console in the control room. A drive
bar cut-off gate is furnished between the loadout hopper and the
double-acting slide gate to facilitate removal of the gate and chute.
4-32
