absence of "steep slopes, canyon benches, and talus under cliffs," it is impossible for this plant to
occur on this site.
Giant helleborine. This species occupies "seeps on sandstone cliffs and hillsides, springs,
sometimes hot springs. Elev. 4800-8000 ft." According to the distribution maps, this species
only occurs in Montrose County approximately 35 miles to the west and 30 miles to the
northwest of the project area. Given the complete absence of "seeps on sandstone cliffs and
hillsides, springs, sometimes hot springs," it is impossible for this plant to occur on this site.
%achina daisy, This species is reported to occur on "saline soils in alcoves and seeps in canyon
walls. Elev. 4800-5600 ft." According to the distribution maps, this species only occurs in
Montrose County approximately 35 miles to the west and northwest of the project area. Given
the total absence of "saline soils in alcoves and seeps in canyon walls," in the proposed NHN
Mine permit area, it is impossible for this plant to occur on this site.
Clay -loving wild buckwheat. This species occurs on "mancos shale badlands, in salt desert
shrub community. Elev. 5200-6400 ft." According to the distribution maps, this species only
occurs in Montrose County in the Gunnison and Uncompahgre Valleys in the eastern portion of
the county. Given the total absence of "mancos shale badlands, in salt desert shrub community,"
in the NHN Mine permit area, it is highly unlikely, if not next to impossible for this plant to
occur on this site.
Black Canyon gilia. This species occupies "cracks on vertical walls, narrow ledges, and cliff
rims. Grows in gneiss. Elev. 5200-6400 ft." According to the distribution maps, this species only
occurs in Montrose County in the extreme eastern portion, next to Gunnison County. Given the
total absence of "cracks on vertical walls, narrow ledges, and cliff rims," in the NHN Mine
permit area, it is impossible for this plant to occur on this site.
Colorado desert -parsley, This species is reported to occur on "adobe hills and plains on rocky
soils derived from Mancos Formation shale. Associated with shrub communities dominated by
sagebrush, shadscale, greasewood, or shrub oak. Elev. 5500-7000 ft." According to the
distribution maps, this species only occurs in Montrose County in the extreme eastern portion,
next to Gunnison County. Given the complete absence of "adobe hills and plains on rocky soils
derived from Mancos Formation shale. Associated with shrub communities dominated by
sagebrush, shadscale, greasewood, or shrub oak," in the NHN Mine permit area, it is extremely
unlikely, if not impossible for this plant to occur on this site.
Section 2.04. 10 Page 33 of 36 June 2016 (TR -14)
