A
Vicinity Map (Figure A-1) attached to this letter shows the general location of the project. The
purpose of this investigation was to explore and evaluate subsurface soil conditions at the site
and, based on the conditions encountered, install groundwater monitoring wells to be
maintained by Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU). The scope of our investigation included the
review of existing geologic information, the drilling and logging of eight (8) exploratory borings,
analyzing the field data in terms of project requirements, and preparing this letter.
FIELD EXPLORATION
The field exploration was performed on November 21, 24, and December 8, 2008 and included
drilling 8 exploratory borings (designated GP-2-1 through GP-2-8) within or near the existing
Gravel Pit #2 (Phase 2) to depths of approximately 20 % to 67 % feet below existing ground
surface, as indicated on the Boring Location Plan (Figure A-2). The borings were drilled using
a CME-55 truck-mounted drill rig equipped with 44nch diameter, continuous-flight, solid-stem
augers as well as 84nch outside diameter, hollow-stem augers. Drive samples were taken with
a standard split spoon sampler at continuous intervals. Graphical logs describing the
subsurface soil conditions encountered are included in Attachment B of this letter. The Boring
Log Legend (also included in Attachment B)explains the symbols used on the boring logs.
LABORATORY TESTING
At the request of CSU, geotechnical and analytical laboratory tests on soil samples were not
included in the scope of work. We can provide geotechnical and analytical laboratory test
results for samples obtained during this investigation, if requested.
99533/CSPBR113 Page 1 of 3 December 22,2008
Copyright 2M KWMfelder
