The new thickener underflow installations are needed both as backup for the current system, and
ultimately, to replace SWMD boreholes in 2SW and 3SW, which are currently being completed, if and
when either of these boreholes are no longer functional.
The 1SW Thickener Underflow Borehole installation will be located north of the mine facilities area and
northwest of the Union Cellular repeater tower that is located on top of the sandstone cliffs adjacent to
Routt County Road 27 (RCR27). Access to this site will utilize the existing ranch road currently used for
access to the Union Cellular tower off of the Fish Creek access road. Minor road improvements to
provide for year-round access will include limited grading, placement of water-bars and minor work on
the existing ditches, and placement of gravel surfacing materials. The 1 SW Thickener Underflow
Borehole will extend from the surface into the sealed SWMD mine workings approximately 1,060 feet in
the 1 SW Panel.
The 12-Left Thickener Underflow Borehole installation will be located on the north side of RCR27, east
of the intersection with Routt County Road 37. The pad will require access from RCR27, and TC has
applied to the County for the required "Driveway" permit. A 100 foot light-use road will be built from
the County road to the borehole pad. The 12-Left Thickener Underflow Borehole will extend from the
surface into the sealed WMD mine workings approximately 1,260 feet in the 12-Left Inby Panel.
Installation of the 1 SW & 12-Left Thickener Underflow Boreholes will involve placement of construction
erosion controls (silt fence and/or straw wattles), removal and stockpiling of soil materials and the limited
vegetation from the pad areas and road (12-Left only), construction of the designed drainage structures
(ditches and rock sumps), minor cut and fill grading to establish the access road and level drill pads,
minor road and drainage improvements for the 1 SW borehole, placement of gravel surfacing on the roads
and pad areas, excavation of temporary cuttings pits on the drill pads, and drilling and casing of the
boreholes. On completion of drilling and casing operations, the cuttings pits will be allowed to dry-out,
