EXHIBIT D
1. General Mining Plan
MINING PLAN
The pen -nit area for the site is 11.2 acres. 5.0 acres of that area will be disturbed as part of mining
operations. Sand and gravel for use in making construction materials products will be mined onsite.
Screening of material will all take place on site. Additionally, ground which was not previously
disturbed will be excavated at stable slopes. Reclamation of the mining area will begin once final
mining has been completed in the entire permit area. Maps C- I and C-2 show the 5.0 acre area of
mining. The mining maps show the evolution of the operation over the life of the mine.
Table D-1 Mining Areas
Mining Stage
Area
Map
Dune excavation
1.3
Acres
C-2
Current Disturbance
_
3.7
Acres
C-2
_
Undisturbed pre -law
_
.6.2
Acres
C-1
_
Total
11.2
Acres
C-2
Mining will stay at least 5 miles from the South Platte River. Mining will be approximately a
quarter of a mile away from County Road 23. All mining will stay above the static water table.
During most of mining, 6-8 inches of topsoil will be removed and stockpiled on site to use during
reclamation. The Ayers Pit mine site consists of over 40 thousand tons of usable sand and gravel
deposited as Quaternary windblown loess and dune sand and gravel sediments. Cretaceous Pierre
Shale underlies the Quaternary dune sediments. Dune sand and gravel sediments are 20-30 feet
thick at their thickest and center of the dune hill on the permit property and taper to 0 feet in every
direction as the dune perimeter terminates and blends into the surrounding topography. Cobbles.
gravel, sand, and fines will be screened to a 20-30 feet depth and sorted during on-site processing.
Mining of sand and gravel will end when clay -rich underlying bedrock shale is encountered. Dune
piles are 10-30 feet in height, depending on location throughout Morgan County. The Ayers Pit
dune rises on average 20 feet above the surrounding topography and will be mined to a pit floor
depth of 10-20 feet below the dominant topographic surface in the area.
