June 15, 2017 PIP'
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman St. Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
RE: Timnath Connell Pit, Permit M-1999-050
Ln
Hydrologic Balance—Groundwater monitoring
Corrective Action Requirement for Inspection Dated May 15, 2017
Mr. Jared Ebert,
LU
co
Reference is made to the Minerals Program Inspection Report Dated May 15, 2017 co
-
Hydrologic Balance—Groundwater Monitoring. 00
Ln
00
Groundwater Monitoring was required by a Technical Revision to satisfy a neighboring •
property to the south in 1999. The property owner operated what is known as Swift
Ponds.
Connell Resources Inc. hereby submits the groundwater monitoring data that has been
performed from 1999 to 2006. (See Attached)
Additional facts are as follows:
• For reasons we cannot confirm, the groundwater monitoring has not occurred
14
since 2006.
CL
• The most obvious reason appears to be the administrative manager for the pit
left the company around that time and the requirement to monitor the
groundwater was not continued. Also, the water levels of the ponds themselves
Ui
had stabilized and the pond levels were the measure of success and the
groundwater monitoring was deemed not to be an issue.
• The property was acquired by Colorado Youth Outdoors around the same time
frame in 2006. According to Colorado Youth Outdoors the water levels have not
Ln
been a concern since they have owned the property. (For confirmation call Bob00
Hewson Executive Director or Rob Anderson Facility Caretaker 970 663-0800)
• Connell Resources Inc. provides it's over allocated water supply to the Swift
Ponds/Colorado Youth Outdoors site through a culvert from the Connell Ui
Resources Inc. recharge ponds.
• Once the recharge ponds were fully functional the water levels at the Swift Pond kA
Ui
•
site stabilized and have never been in question since that time.
