N0rthWest Colorado Consultants Inc.
Geotechnical 1 Environmental Engineering•Materials Testing
October 27,2016
Seneca Properties
Jerry Nettleton
29515 RCR#27
Oak Creek,CO 80467 RC+
Job Number: 16-10412Subject: Slope Stability Evaluation,Pond
,UN 5 211
\amaton,
6/Access Road A Slope Failures,Seneca IIW 1Org&Saf e`y
Mine,Routt County,Colorado. M
Dear Jerry,
At Seneca Properties (Seneca) request, NWCC, Inc. (NWCC) has prepared this Slope Stability Evaluation
report for the slope failures situated between Pond 6 and Access Road A (Road A), located at the Seneca
HW Mine in Routt County,Colorado. The project site location is shown in Figure#1.
This report has been prepared to summarize the results of the geotechnical investigation (field and
laboratory)recently completed at the site,as well as provide drainage and site grading recommendations for
the stabilization/reconstruction of the subject slope failures. NWCC has prepared this report in general
accordance with the Scope of Work outlined in the proposal/contract prepared by NWCC and dated July 19,
2016.
Site Conditions: The conditions at the project site are variable due to previous site grading and coal mining
operations. NWCC understands that Road A was originally constructed and used to haul coal from the mine
to County Road 53 and then to railroad loadout facility situated south of Hayden, Colorado. NWCC also
understands that Pond 6 was originally constructed as a sedimentation pond and the water in the pond was
used during the surface mining operations that occurred to the east and southeast of the project site.
It appears that a considerable amount of site grading occurred along Road A during its original construction.
It appears that cut slopes on the order of 10 to 30 feet in height may have been constructed along the
south/upboard side of Road A and embankment fills ranging from 20 to 40 feet in height were constructed
along the north/downboard side of Road A. It also appears that portions of the Road A alignment may have
had additional fill materials placed along both sides of the roadway during the reclamation operations for the
mine.
(970) 879-7888 • Fax (970) 879-7899
2580 Copper Ridge Drive• Steamboat Springs, CO 80487
