SITE 99CLAtMTION ACTIVITY
APRIL 2016 TO MARCH 2O17
Reclamation activity during the 2016 reporting year (April 2016 to
March 2017) consisted of reclamation maintenance work and activity
by others within the permit area.
In the following sections of this report, environmental activity
during the 2016 reporting year and activity within the permit area
by others is discussed on a site by site basis .
All four of the below permit areas have been included in the
list-ing for the so-called Bonita Peak Mining District NPL site.
pERMIT AREA ]BAR THE AMERICAN TUNNEL - Plate No. 1
During the 2016 reporting year, no additional acreage was disturbed
or reclaimed by Sunnyside. With completion of work in 2006, all of
the reclamation work in the reclamation plan was completed. The two
buildings and surrounding area that will remain after reclamation
were occupied in 2016 by the EPA under an agreement with the
current owner of the land and buildings. Sunnyside had no
involvement in that process .
In 2015, at the request of the State of Colorado, SGC cleaned out
the American tunnel drainage culvert and ditch and then left the
sediment bags used to collect the precipitate from the culvert and
drainage ditch on-site to dry. 2016 activity consisted of removing
the sediment bags used to collect the precipitate from cleaning the
culvert and ditch in 2015 .
Since the Gold King incident on August 5, 2015, EPA has taken over
the area to use as a staging area for their Gold King response and
to build and operate a water treatment plant to treat the Gold King
flows . As a result, most of Sunnyside' s reclamation work has been
and remains disturbed. Given the EPA occupation of the site, and
the previous completion of Sunnyside' s reclamation obligations,
2
