Drawings.
H. Lockhead-Hagerty Drawing D-127728, Rev2 shows a label on the 10 ton air-cooled water chiller
stating:
"WARNING!DO NOT OPERATE WHENAMBIENT TEMP IS BELOW-20°F".
As this chiller is to be outside the ADR, the potential for the ambient air to be below -20Y is not
considered to be insignificant. What are the specific issues associated with the chiller being
exposed to -20Y temperatures and if the chiller cannot be operated under such conditions, how
will that affect the operation of the retort?
CC&V Response: CC&V has attached a spreadsheet containing approximately ten years of
recorded low temperatures in degrees Centigrade (attachment 3). The meteorological data was
collected from CC&V's Rigi weather station, which is located northeast of the AJAX building.
Based on observed conditions, over the last ten years CC&V has not observed a low temperature
below -20°F. CC&V will commit to not operating the retort if temperatures below -20°F
However; if the retort absolutely must run and the temperature is below -20°F for sustained
periods of time, CC&V will construct a temporary enclosure around the chiller and heat the
enclosure to raise the temperature above -207.
Note: Converting-207 to degrees centigrade equals-28.8889 C°.
Should you require further information please do not hesitate to contact Tyler O'Donnell at 719.689.4056
or Tyler.O'Donnellanewmont.com or myself at 719.689.4055 or Meg.Burte,newmont.com.
Sincerely,
Al ,/V/
Meg Burt
Senior Environmental Manager
Cripple Creek&Victor Gold Mining Co
MB/tvo
Attachments 1 - 3
Ec: T.
