The Mine is a reclaimed underground
mine. No personnel remain on the mine site. Snowcap Coal Company representitive was unavailable for this
inspection, so no SCC personnel accompanied the inspection. The Kokopelli Fruit stand has yet to open for the
season.

The weather was cool, cloudy and extremely windy. A major Spring storm was moving into the area. Local
news reports in Grand Junction reported a brush fire at the Cameo exit along I-70. When the inspector arrived
at the Mine entrance at the Cameo exit, no fire personnel were on site. The fire had been controlled. This
brush fire consisted of approximatley 1/2 an acre located between the west side of I-70 and the frontage road
east of the Colorado River in the vicinity of the bridge over the Colorado River. The fire occurred outside of
the Roadside Portals permit area boundary.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE - Rule 4.05
Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2, 4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5, 4.05.6; Discharge Structures 4.0 5.7,
4.05.10; Diversions 4.05.4; Impoundments 4.05.6, 4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18:
The permit area was dry. A large spring storm had been forecast for that day. Rain started when the
inspector was inspecting Tract 71 overlying old mine workings. Due to the condition of the roads, and the
intensity of the storm, the inspection was completed when the rain rolled in.

The north-south trench on the eastern edge of Mr. Fontanari’s property in Section 34 has been filled in. The
east-west segment at the north end of this trench remains open. This location is the area proposed for repair in
TR69. The Carey “pit” was dry. The ditch from the Martin-Crawford ditch to the “pit” has also been filled in.
The western end of the Martin-Crawford ditch was walked. This ditch fades away into the field to the west on
Mr. Carey’s property. There are some old remnant pipes sticking out of the ground west of the Carey “pit”.
This slope west of the Carey “pit” is pretty much a field of weeds, Cheatgrass, field bindweed, and other non-
native plants. There are no regularly established furrows, or irrigation ditches in this area. There were no
erosional features either.
