v M11 j 1
As part of our investigation of the London Mine over the past year, we have found that the
aquifer is intruding into the workings of the London Mine from the 0210 Drift at a concentration
of somewhat less than 0.3 mg/L dissolved zinc, while the water intrusion from the cross faults is
entering the mine at a concentration of more than 10 times that concentration and flows between
40 and 100 GPM. We believe that dewatering from the axis of the syncline to the west of the
mine workings can reduce the amount of otherwise untreatable background contamination
entering the Mine and prevent the contact of the alkaline good quality groundwater with the
Belden Shale and porphyry intrusive rocks that are pyrite-rich and metal-laden. The net result is
that the load to the Creek may be reduced by several pounds each day, or as much as 60% of the
TMDL for this segment of the stream during high flow, and several hundred percent of the
allocated load at low flow.
It is imperative that this work be completed in the 2017 summer work season so that the
beneficial results of the dewatering can be presented at the Water Quality Control Commission
hearings to be held in late summer 2018 (petition for hearing was granted by WQCC in January
2017). The outcome of that hearing will determine appropriate feasibility—based stream
standards for Mosquito Creek and South Mosquito Creek.
I welcome the opportunity to discuss this Amended NOI with any concerned party or with the
Division.
Sincerely,
iNTineWater Finance LC
Joseph G. Harrington, President.
Copy: Kelly Morgan, CDPHE
Park County Board of County Commissioners
Lee Johnson, Attorney—Carlson Hammond and Paddock
(Conceptual) Financial Warranty calculations
0.8 acre disturbed, $1,600. Credit for overlap with previous bond and unused disturbance, $600.
Net increase in surface reclamation required, $1000.
2 drill holes, 24" bore hole, 650 feet depth in aquifer filled with bentonite gel, 350 feet above
aquifer filled with cement grout to surface. $22,000 in cement. $8,900 in bentonite.
Amendment of Belden (pyritic) drill cuttings with 2% lime, 4,400 lbs, $400.
Grand total Financial Warranty required is estimated at $32,400.
