PERMIT #: M-1977-568
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: SJM
INSPECTION DATE: May 10, 2017
OBSERVATIONS
This was a normal monitoring inspection of the Cooper Pit; DRMS file# M-1977-568. This site is located about
6 miles west of Center, Colorado in Saguache County. I, Stephanie Mitchell of the Colorado Division of
Reclamation Mining and Safety conducted the inspection. Elvie Samora of Saguache County accompanied me
on the inspection.
This site is permitted for 80 acres with about 18 acres currently disturbed. The Division does not hold a
financial warranty for this site because it is operated by a government entity.
Adequate mine identification signage was noted at the entrance off of County Road B and is in accordance
with Rule 3.1.12(1).
The permit area is delineated by fencing around the entire area. Material stockpiles and topsoil/overburden
stockpiles appear to be stable. Mining is currently taking place in the center of the permit area. Fuel Storage
was contained in adequate containers with secondary containment.
There is an area that is designated as a plant area. There is a batch plant on the site presently. The direction of
mining is moving east and south. The highwall is estimated to be about 15 feet in depth.
Little or no weeds were on site. The Division strongly recommends the Operator to remain diligent in
implementing the noxious weed control measures at the site.
Overall, no problems were noted on this site. The operation appears to be in compliance with the approved
mining plan.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Stephanie Mitchell at the Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 S. 3rd Street, Suite 301, Grand Junction, Colorado, 81501,
phone # 970.242.5025.
