6.4.7 EXHIBIT G -Water Information
The mining operation will be designed to not impact surface water or groundwater. It is expected that no
groundwater will be encountered. Test pits dug to a depth of 18 feet have encountered no ground water
over the last year.
Surface runoff enters the Pit Area from the north through a 24-inch diameter culvert under County Road
550. This water will be diverted around the west side of the excavation pit using a berm and drainage
swale then returned to sheet flow at existing grade. See Map 5. There will be a buffer of approximately
200 feet between the end of the drainage swale and Burns #2 Ditch. Erosion control measures will be
implemented to halt any sediment transport from entering Burns#2 Ditch
Overburden placed in the Spoils & Stockpile Area will be contoured to slopes less steep than 3HAV. The
west side of the Spoils & Stockpile Area will be left at the approximate existing contour and a drainage
swale will be shaped to allow any surface water to exit the Spoils & Stockpile Area at the historical
location. Erosion control measures will be used in this swale to prevent erosion.
The Processing Plant & Product Stockpile Area will need minimal re-grading as shown on Map 5.
Drainage will not be concentrated and erosion control measures will be implemented as necessary
The Applicant will apply for a permit for Stormwater Discharges Associated with Construction Activity from
the Water Quality Control Division of the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment. A Storm
Water Management Plan (SWMP)will be prepared for this permit
Water supply will be needed for three tasks One, approximately 0.4 acre-feet will be needed to irrigate
the seed used to stabilize the topsoil stockpile. This water will be pumped from Burns #2 Ditch with
permission of the landowner. Two, up to one acre-foot will be needed for dust suppression during each of
the two years of mining operations. This water will be pumped directly from the Huerfano River at the
County Road 560 crossing as permitted in Water Court Case No. 13CW3062. Three, approximately 8
acre-feet will be needed for irrigation during each of the first two years of the revegetation operations. The
preferred source for this irrigation water will be the reservoir to be constructed during this project The
new reservoir will be filled by pumping directly from the Huerfano River pursuant to Water Court Case No.
13CW3062. Alternatively, this water can be pumped from the Burn #2 Ditch with permission of the
landowner
044
