HCWCD REVEGETATION PLAN: PAGE 5
Step 8 - Management
All tillage, seeding, and crimping operations should be performed across the
slope when practical. The seeding should be protected from grazing and
trampling until the seeding is well established. Normally at least two years
of protection is needed.
Weeds should be controlled during seedling establishment (first two years).
This is especially critical if seeding is irrigated as irrigated weeds will shade
and crowd out the grass seedlings. Weeds may be controlled either by
mowing or by using an approved herbicide. Refer to CSU Extension,
Colorado Weed Management Association (CSMA.org) or State of Colorado -
Department of Agriculture
www.colorado.gov/pacific/agconservation/noxiousweeds) for herbicide
recommendations to control weeds in the grass seeding. Use herbicides with
caution on new grass seedlings. Grasses must have four leaves prior to using
most herbicides. Always read and follow the label directions on the herbicide.
The area should be protected from grazing and trampling until the seeding is
well established.
