Range and Reveg LLC Rich Rhoades
Phone: 719 250-5993 rr52@q.com
565 E Clarion Dr, Pueblo West, CO 81007
DATE: March 20, 2017
TO: TZA Water Engineers
c/o John C. Faux, P.E. (jfaux@tza4water.com)
RE: Revegetation of land disturbed by gravel mining
Background:
The owner of the land is Sheep Mountain Ranch and the land manager is
Grady Grissom. Huerfano County, Road and Bridge will mine the land for
gravel and after mining, the Huerfano County Water Conservation District
will contract to build a reservoir in the mined area. The reservoir will be
fenced off, the remainder of the parcel will be used for grazing.
The site location: NE 1/4 of the NE1/4 of section 22 south of Huerfano County
Road 550 and north of the Huerfano River, T26S R70W of the 6th P.M.
Stockpiling will take place on the SE1/4 of the NE1/4 of the above mentioned
section, township and range.
Soil information was obtained from the NRCS web site, Web Soil Survey
which is the official copy of soils information. The primary soils for the
identified area to be disturbed:
51 - Neville fine sandy loam, 3 to 9 percent slopes
63 - Otero fine sandy loam, 1 to 9 percent slopes
67 - Potts sandy loam, 1 to 8 percent slopes
These soils correspond to NRCS ecosites Loamy Foothill in the case of soils
51 and 67 and Sandy Foothill in the case of soil 63. Typically you would
expect to find 80% grasses, 10% forbs and 10% shrubs.
Typical species on these sites are western wheatgrass, blue grama, sideoats
grama, little bluestem, scarlet globemallow prairie coneflower, plains
pricklypear and broom snakeweed. Annual production is estimated to be
1,000 to 1200 pounds per acre
Plants: An onsite visit was made on March 16th. Plants found on-site were
blue grama, red threeawn, western wheatgrass, Indian ricegrass, sand
dropseed, bottlebrush squirreltail, ring muhly, winterfat, fourwing saltbush,
rabbitbrush, broom snakeweed, small soapweed, plains pricklypear and
annual forbs.
