Box 591 <br />Somerset, CO 81434 <br />RE: MCC Proposed Underground Mine Workings Within Fifty Feet of Federal Coal Lease <br />Boundary — COC1362 & COC67232 — West Elk Mine, (Permit No. C-1980-007) <br />Dear Mr. Smith: <br />In response to your letter dated December 18, 2014, requesting consent of an authorized officer <br />to permit the West Elk Mine to mine recoverable federal coal reserves by mining underground <br />development entries within 50 feet of Federal Coal Lease COC1362 and COC67232 boundaries, <br />as set forth in Title 43, Subtitle B, Chapter II- BLM, Subchapter C, Part 3480, Subpart 3484 - <br />Performance Standards, Section 3484. 1, (c) (6) barrier pillars left for support. <br />We have reviewed the regulations and the MCC proposed mine layout with respect to the <br />position of boundaries of Federal Coal Leases C1362 and COC67232 shown on map <br />S14LA101.DWG.
