conveyor that conveys the crushed limestone to a covered storage dome. <br /> The crusher also produces limestone used in the finish milling of the cement product (known as <br /> "limestone addition"). This limestone is crushed into a separate pile within the quarry and <br /> transported by truck to the plant site. In addition, varying amounts of crusher fines are produced <br /> during crushing. The fines are crushed into a pile in the quarry and then moved by loader to be <br /> used in quarry reclamation. <br /> 1.3 Quarry Storm Water Management <br /> GCC does not wash stone or discharge groundwater from the mine. Discharges consist of storm <br /> water runoff that has contacted active and inactive mining areas. This stormwater is collected in a <br /> retention pond within the quarry as further described below. <br /> The quarry is below the existing grade of the surrounding undisturbed areas and is subject to <br /> storm water run-on. Best Management Practices will be implemented to limit the amount of storm <br /> water run-on into the quarry area through the use of berms and dikes. Storm water runoff within <br /> the active quarry and reclaimed areas is retained in a pit or pond within the below grade footprint <br /> of the quarry. <br /> Storm water is temporarily detained in this pond for up to three (3)days to allow entrained <br /> sediment in the storm water runoff to settle. The water is then pumped from the pond to an <br /> unnamed arroyo tributary to the St. Charles River(Outfall No. 1). See Exhibit 1. <br /> 1.4 Material Inflow <br /> As a system, the quarry receives the following inflows: <br /> • Mobile equipment including a water truck, motor grader, scrapers, drill rig, blasting truck, <br /> loader, fuel and lube truck, haul truck, generators, pumps, a crusher and belt conveyors <br /> that may contain fuel, lubricants, antifreeze and hydraulic fluid. <br /> • Water used for dust suppression on roads and material transfer points. <br /> • Ammonium Nitrate and Fuel Oils for blasting limestone. <br /> • Portable fuel tanks. <br /> • Overburden and topsoil. <br /> • Surfactants and soil stabilizers for fugitive dust and erosion control. <br /> Soil amendments for reclamation. <br /> • Seeding for reclamation. <br /> 1.5 Quarry Outflow <br /> As a system, the quarry has the following outflow systems: <br /> • Broken and crushed limestone. <br /> • Topsoil and overburden. <br /> • Controlled and fugitive emissions of particulate matter from quarry activities. <br /> • Used oils, lubricants, and antifreeze. <br /> 3 <br />
