AVCOLORADO
Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
May 8, 2017
James E. Thank you for your timely submittal. The Division has
completed reviewing the report and has the following comments:
The hydrologic Monitoring Plan is presented on page 3-86 of the currently approved
permit application package (PAP) requires that water quality samples be taken on North
Thompson Creek in May and September of each year. Parameters tested for include: pH,
Total Dissolved Solids, Total Suspended Solids, oil and grease, Bicarbonate, Calcium,
Chloride, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, Sodium, Sulfate, Zinc and Copper. The correct
frequency and parameters were tested for in 2016 on upper and lower North Thompson
Creek. Water quality data collected for North Thompson Creek is similar between the
upstream and downstream locations.
- The approved PAP requires the discharge from outfall 001 to be sampled annually in
June for the following parameters: pH, Total Dissolved Solids, Total Suspended Solids,
oil and grease, Bicarbonate, Calcium, Chloride, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, Sodium,
Sulfate, Zinc and Copper. Samples from Outfall 001 were not collected due to there
being no discharge from Outfall 001 during 2016.
- North Thompson Creek was not impacted by the water discharged from the No. 1 Mine
or the No. 3 Mine. Water from these points is not discharged into North Thompson
Creek. Minrec, Inc. reported that there was no discharge through Outfall 001 during the
2016 calendar year. Since 2010 water discharged from Pond T-2 was directed to Pond
P9. When Pond P9 fills to the point where it discharges, the water it routed through a
 pF C0
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, CO 80203 P 303.866.3567 F 303.832.8106 http://mining.state.co.us
John W.
