Technical Revision 25 Schwartzwalder Mine
' pH will be measured by a probe in the clean water tank or in the discharge pipe immediately downstream
of the clean water tank.
' 3.2.5 Pollution Control Measures
The reactor tank and the 20,000-gallon treated water tanks are, or will be, placed within secondary
containment that is sufficient to completely contain spills from these tanks. Furthermore, the treated
1 water tanks and the clean water tank are situated within a bermed area on the mesa, which will prevent
spills from reaching the mine access road. The reactor tank is situated in an area where released water
would be contained within the Sump 10 area, if a spill overtopped the secondary containment.
' Because of berms and topography, spills from the treated water and reactor tanks will not enter Ralston
Creek. Although no secondary containment is provided for the clean water tank, berms constructed on the
mesa and topography will also prevent this water from flowing directly into Ralston Creek. Therefore, the
combination of monitoring systems (Section 3.2.4), secondary containment, berms, and topography will
prevent environmental and human health impacts associated with the operation of the clean water, reactor,
' and treated water tanks.
3.2.6 Demonstration of Adequate Containment
' As demonstrated on Figures 3-1 and 3-2, secondary containment capacity for the treated water and reactor
tanks are more than sufficient to contain spills from these tanks. Furthermore, additional tertiary berms
' on the mesa and site topography prevent spills from entering Ralston Creek.
1
1
1
Mine Permit M-1977-300
Cotter Corporation(N.S.L.) 15 April 2017
