and IWM plans, thereby starting the cycle again. The premise behind this plan is that a structured,
logical approach to weed management, based on the best available information, is cheaper and more
effective than an ad-hoc approach where one deals with weed problems as they arise.
2. Description of the Property
A. Location
The Fedinec Pit is located in the NW%of Section 14,Township 6 North, Range 90 West of the 6tn
principal Meridian in Moffat County, Colorado. The site is approximately 9 miles southeast of Craig,CO
along County Road 120 off County Road 394.
Site boundaries are delineated on DRMS Exhibit C Mine Plan.
B. Resource Base
The Fedinec Pit consists of a channery outcrop and silty loam soil. Area land use is rangeland
intending to support cattle grazing. The Fedinec Pit will be vegetated with NRCS recommended species
rangeland species.
3. Inventory of Weed Species
A.Inventory of Weed Species
At the time of adoption of Moffat County's Noxious Weed Management Plan (NWMP) List A
weeds species were not confirmed in Moffat County. List A species Mediterranean sage, Myrtle spurge,
Purple loosestrife and Yellow star thistle were believed to be eradicated but were on the watch list.
Several List B noxious weeds species are in the county.
A representative from the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety(DRMS),visited
the site in October of 2016 and noted in the inspection report that the noxious weeds observed included
mullein, knapweed,cheat grass,thistle and houndstongue.
Specific noxious weeds species were identified with information from the CO Department of
Agriculture(DOA) Noxious Weeds Species webpage. Using the population distribution maps and Moffat
County's NWMP,the weed species fact sheets were downloaded and are provided in Appendix B. List B
species include Bull thistle,Canada thistle, Musk thistle, Plumeless thistle,Scotch thistle, Russian
knapweed and Houndstongue. Cheatgrass or Downy brome is a List C species.
B.Weed Infestations Areas
Infested areas are present in the disturbance that is not rock outcrop or interior haul road. The
Fedinec Pit has not been mined for a few years nor has the site been reclaimed. Because of this, noxious
weeds are establishing where native vegetation was stripped.
