PERMIT #: M-2005-071 <br />INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: SJM <br />INSPECTION DATE: April 13, 2017 <br />OBSERVATIONS <br />This was a normal monitoring inspection of the Red Shale Pit; DRMS file No. M-2005-071 operated by Benson <br />Brothers. This is a 26.50 acre 112c mining operation located approximately 4 miles northwest of Cedaredge, <br />Colorado in Delta County. I, Stephanie Mitchell of the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety <br />(Division) conducted the inspection. Mr. Dwight Benson accompanied me on the inspection. <br />The Mine Identification sign was at the entrance to the mine site in compliance per Rule 3.1.12 (2). The <br />permit boundaries are comprised of fences and geological barriers that are easily identifiable. <br />The current disturbance is located in the northern portion of the permit area and is approximately 4 acres in <br />size, and moving to the south. The excavation is about 60 feet deep with a vertical highwall. Topsoil has been <br />stripped and is stockpiled as a berm along the western part of the permit boundary of the site and is stabilized <br />with vegetative cover. No erosion or sedimentation issues were observed. <br />There was no fuel on site. A crusher was on site. <br />Postmining land use is Rangeland.
