1.1 PROTECTION PRIOR TO STARTUP
In the period during which the equipment and accessories are stored at the site prior to
installation or during which the equipment is in place, but idle, proper precautions must be
taken to prevent damage or deterioration to the equipment.
The following suggestions are intended as a guide to field installation personnel:
1. Motors, reducers and other separate mechanical components should be stored
under a roof. If this is not possible, they should then be protected with waterproof
tarpaulins, exercising caution to provide adequate ventilation under the tarpaulins to
prevent the accumulation of condensation on the equipment.
2. Repaint the equipment as necessary to overcome the corrosive effects resulting
from exposure to rain, snow, dampness, humidity and sunlight.
ANOTICE
The retort furnace should never be hosed down with water even if the
power is off.
1.2 FOUNDATION
1. Refer to the General Arrangement and all other pertinent drawings. Carefully layout
and align foundations, using reference points and elevations as marked on the
drawings. Use of a transit will assure maximum accuracy.
2. Using point loads noted on the drawings, design the footings and foundations to
meet local soil conditions and ordinances. Allow ample anchor bolt projection, and
grout space for final alignment.
1.3 EQUIPMENT SUPPORT
Refer to the General Arrangement and all other applicable job drawings. Using the point
loading, elevations and reference points given on the drawings, design the structural steel
framework required for the support of the equipment. In designing the support, attention
should be given to accepted practices and local ordinances. Allow ample shim space for
final alignment of equipment.
A
