Pitch Reclamation Project Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board — 2016 Annual Reclamation Report
3.5.2 South Mine Area
In 2015, the east wall of the South Mine area was inspected and additional slope displacement was noted.
Some of the monitoring points had displacement of about eight ft during the 2015 to 2016 monitoring period.
Tension cracks redeveloped showing both vertical and horizontal offsets as presented in Photograph 9.
The total displacement of the tension cracks was on the order 1 to 2 ft.The heavy precipitation in late spring
is the likely the cause of the accelerated slope displacement and related tension crack development. The
area would have been regraded in 2015, but late season precipitation and equipment failure prevented it
from being accomplished. In 2016, these cracks were graded closed, positive drainage of the bench was
re-established, and a lower bench was added to the slope, as shown in Photograph 10.
r
tit
r i g,I•  '•5`4- i Y, - , •, .. „r`r. +.. tea 1P ;. 1
i a )!.`4 .,^ 1 1. , 1 y  'cam !" •F 'r,,, j-  _,
c - ...` Q;.. ,Yt Al h l P})
Photograph 9: Tension Cracks Redeveloped in 2015 in the East Wall of South Mine Area
low
.::.•+!'
