U.S. Department of 0riculture • Page - 1 Soil Conservation Service 2/8/95 NONTECHNICAL SOILS DESCRIPTION REPORT FOR DESCRIPTION CATEGORY - SOI Survey Area- LOGAN COUNTY , COLORADO Map -- Symbol Description 3 ALDA LOAM This is a deep, somewhat poorly drained soil with a loamy surface texture and a calcareous loam and fine sandy loam subsurface texture . Permeability is moderate and the available water capacity is moderate . The surface runoff is slow and the erosion hazard is slight. SOIL CAPABILITY -- Non-Irrig. - IIIw, Irrig. IIIw. RANGE SITE -- Sandy Meadow. 29 FLUVAQUENTS Fluvaquents are deep, somewhat poorly drained soils formed in recent alluvial deposits bordering the South Platte River channel . They are nearly level. The area is dissected by old river channels and by intermittent streams . The surface texture for Fluvaquents varies from loamy sand to clay, which overlies sand and gravel at depths of 4 to 20 inches. These soils have a fluctuating water table ranging from 10 to 60 inches during winter and summer months. SOIL CAPABILITY -- Irrig. - VIw. 39 HAYFORD SILTY CLAY LOAM This is a deep, somewhat poorly drained soil with a silty clay loam surface texture and a heavy silty clay loam subsurface texture. Permeability is slow and available water capacity is moderate. Surface runoff is slow and erosion hazard is slight. SOIL CAPABILITY -- Non-Irrig. - IIIw, Irrig. - IIIw. RANGE SITE -- Salt Meadow. 128 WESTPLAIN-ALDA COMPLEX These are deep, somewhat poorly drained soils. The surface texture is calcareous silty clay loam to loam and the subsurface texture is a very gravelly clay loam. The permeability is slow to moderate and the available water capacity is moderate. The surface runoff is slow and the erosion hazard is slight. There is a fluctuating water table present . SOIL CAPABILITY -- Non-Irrig . - VIw, Irrig. - IVw. RANGE SITE -- Westplain and Alda - Salt Meadow. i
