OBSERVATIONS
This was a monitoring inspection of the Benton Dawson Gravel Pit; DRMS file No. M-1983-209 operated by
Frank Gilmore This site is located approximately 1 mile west of Delta, Colorado in Delta County. I, Stephanie
Mitchell of the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety conducted the inspection. Mr. Frank
Gilmore accompanied me on the inspection.
This is a 6 acre 110c mining operation for gravel with a maximum disturbance of 6 acres.
The northeast corner of the permit area has been reclaimed at a 3:1 slope. The permit boundary was
marked with metal posts and fencing. The permit sign was in place and all permit boundary markers
were in place at the time of inspection.
Several pieces of equipment were on site, including a grizzly screener. There was no fuel stored on site.
There appears to be no offsite erosion and no water retention was observed. Topsoil stockpiles were
located in several areas.
No other problems or violations were noted during this inspection.
The operation appears to be in compliance with the approved reclamation plan.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Stephanie Mitchell at the Division of
Reclamation, Mining and Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand
Junction, Colorado 81501, phone number (970) 242-5025.
