Box 338 MINING AND SAFETY
Cotopaxi, Colorado 81223
719-942-4178
March 9, 2017
State of Colorado
Department of Natural Resources
Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Attention: Tim Cazier, PE, Environmental Protection Specialist
RE: PERMIT NUMBER M-77-193 TEZAK HEAVY EQUIPMENT T.H.E.
AGGREGATE SOURCE, APPLICATION FOR TECHNICAL REVISION
This request for technical revision to permit is to address the construction of a process
fines stockpile/permanent storage structure within the existing bonded property
boundaries.
The storage area will be located on Tezak Heavy Equipment property in the southwest
corner of the permit area. The structure will encompass 10 acres of footprint at its base,
spanning dimensions of 850'long and up to 600' deep from toe to top of structure near
the top of the existing highwall benches. Maximum final height of the structure will top
off at 1931rom toe of structure to highest fill elevation along the west permit boundary.
At maximum build out, the stockpile will contain approximately 1 million tons of granite
sand and fine aggregate.
Materials and Construction
The material composing the structure is a fine to course grained granite derived sand and
fine aggregate containing varying amounts of potassium feldspar, quartz, and biotite.
The material size is typically 100% passing a 3/8" sieve with generally 15% passing a
200-mesh sieve.
A typical sizing analysis of fill material is included in this filing.
The granite fines will be placed and compacted at one foot intervals. All fill materials
will be watered in place prior to transport to final placement and compacted by means of
haul truck or loader wheel packing, bulldozer track packing or sheep's foot type
compactor application. The west side of the storage pile will lie directly up against the
current highwall benches. The east face and northeast face of the proposed storage
structure will be sloped not to exceed 3:1 Horizontal: Vertical overall slope.
The top 12" of the surface of the storage facility will be covered with planting medium
composed of rocky soils recovered from nearby stripping operations of surface materials
