PERMIT#: M-2002-046
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: SJM
INSPECTION DATE: March 15,2017
OBSERVATIONS
This was a monitoring inspection of the D Road Pit; M-2002-046 operated by Ephemeral Resources, LLC. This
site is located less than 1.50 miles southeast of Grand Junction, Colorado in Mesa County. I, Stephanie
Mitchell of the Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety conducted the inspection. Mr. Mark
Gardner and Darrell Garcia, representing the Operator accompanied me on the inspection.
This is a 104 acre 112c mining operation for sand and gravel. A mine identification sign was in place at the
entrance to the mine site. All permit boundaries were all clearly marked delineating the permit area.
The site is mined in phases called extraction areas. Extraction Area B has been mined and this area has been
reclaimed. Two ponds remain and they are on the southern border of the permit area. The side slopes of the
pit excavation appear to be at a 3:1 horizontal to vertical ratio or less and has been revegetated with approved
seed mixture. Mining is currently taking place in Extraction areas A, D and the eastern edge of Extraction area
F.
Topsoil and material stockpiles appear to be stable.
No noxious weeds were observed on site. The approved weed management plan is to mow the weeds and
refrain from spraying. The Operator has also added wood chips to berms on the northeastern permit
boundary corner to mitigate weeds.
Fuel storage appeared to be adequate with secondary containment. A skid steer, a loader, a crusher and a
scale house were located within the permit boundaries.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Stephanie Mitchell at the Division of
Reclamation, Mining& Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand
Junction, Colorado 81501, phone number 970.242.5025.
