SubTerra, Inc. Peabody Twentymile Coal, LLC April 11, 2016
Subsidence Mitigation During 9 -East Undermining of the Energy Spur at the Foidel Creek Mine
Figure 4 contains a prediction for the travelling profile (profile parallel to face retreat) and Figure 5
contains a prediction of subsidence along the energy spur indicating maximum effects between
Stations 18+00 and 19+00.
2.3. Subsidence and Gradient Change Prediction Along the Energy Spur
Table 1 and Figure 6 shows the predicted subsidence profile along the Energy Spur associated with
coal extraction in Panel 9 -East, with and without remediation. Maximum subsidence effects without
remediation are estimated at:
1. Maximum subsidence of 63 -inches.
2. Maximum slope change of 1.0%.
3. Maximum subsided gradient of 1.8% in the mining zone. It is noted that existing track
gradients exceed 2% up -gradient of where the Energy Spur crosses 9 -East.
These predicted impacts will require remedial actions to maintain the track within the gradient
tolerances required by the railroad.
5 PN: 2016-10
