F)l
monitoring requirements will be directed by the specifications.
Comments pertaininq to the Kleinfelder Fill Slopes Engineering Analysis
(Attachment B)
10.Two cross sections analyzed for slope stability, but it is not clear what
the lateral extents of the proposed fill placement will be for the final
site grading.
o Do the two cross sections adequately evaluate the entire extents
and aspects of the final fill placement sections, or will additional
analysis be needed?
Response:
The geotechnica/report describes the objectives of the study as
characterizing existing fill slopes and materials; evaluating the
engineering properties of the fill slope materials; developing the stability
model for the final slope configuration; and developing criteria for fill
slope design. Because the fill materials at the site are all derived from
the same sedimentary overburden rock, the referenced sections should
be representative of all existing fill slope geometries and material
properties and the developed slope design criteria should be appropriate
for all existing fill slopes at the site.
11. Per Section 6.5, "Critical failure" defined as more than half of the slope
height fails.
o Is this definition for the fill section or entire slope height?
Response:
The geotechnica/report states that slope failure was considered critical
when at least half of the slope height failed. This height includes the
overall fill slope height of 150 feet, but must include more than one bench
height of 50 feet.
12. Per Section 6.4, the stability analysis does not include pore water
pressures (ie, saturated conditions).
o How are the seep areas and perched water areas identified
in the quarry addressed? w.
Response:
The geotechnical report, under Section 6.5.2, evaluates the stability of ~
the fill slopes during an extreme rainfall event that assumes the base of
the fill would become saturated during the 100-year rainstorm event.
10
hdrinc.com
1670 Broadway, Suite 3400, Denver,CO 80202-4824
(303)764-1520
