In the Cow Camp Creek alluvium (belpw NPDES 004 Pond), water quality is
measured at one well. Well 69 displays a decreasing TDS trend.
Wadge Overburden.
Five wells are used to monitor the water quality in this stratum. Well
42, located in the south central part of the permit area, usually does
not have enough water in its casing to sample, but did have enough water
in May 2014 and displays an increasing trend. Well COV11 was first
sampled in May 2011. This well displays a decreasing TDS trend. Wells
COV23, COV2633 and COV2702 were first sampled in 2008. Well 23 displays
an increasing TDS trend, while Wells 2633 and 2702 display decreasing
trends. However, the range of all historic TDS values for wells 23, 2633
and 2702, 554 to 880 mg/l, is relatively low when compared to what is
observed in other aquifers in the area.
Wadge Coal.
Five wells are used to monitor the water quality of this seam. Well 17
is located just west of NPDES Pond 002. It displays an increasing TDS
trend; however, the trend appears to be stabilizing. Well 19 is located
slightly over a mile upstream of NPDES Pond 002. It displays a slightly
decreasing TDS trend. Wells CW23, CW2632 and CW2701 were first sampled
in 2008. Wells CW23 and CW2632 display a decreasing TDS tend. Well
CW2701 displays a slightly increasing TDS trend. All wells, except Well
17, display TDS values between 610 and 970 mg/1.
Trout Creek Sandstone.
Well STC5 was previously the potable water supply for the PSCM. Due to a
pump failure, the last sample from this well was taken in June 2011.
This well was abandoned on October 2, 2012. A new replacement well,
CTC87, was drilled in close proximity to Well STC5 in 2011. As it was
the drinking water supply for the PSCM, it was sampled per its CDPHE
drinking water permit (CO -254705). It is no longer a public drinking
water system and the last sample taken was in September of 2012. It
displays a decreasing TIS trend. There are no sampling requirements if n
the CDRMS permit for this well.
7
