Environmental Protection Plan-Amendment
6.4.21(5) Designated Chemicals Evaluation
(a)Potential to Affect Human Health,Property or Environment
Limited and small amounts of hazardous or toxic chemicals' (less than 50 gallons)will be
stored in locked storage units. Representative chemicals include paints, solvents,
lubricating oil,pesticides,herbicides,and antifreeze(See attachment U-1-Material Safety
Data Sheets)
6.4.21(6) Designated Chemicals and Materials Handling
(a)Procedures for Disposal,Decommissioning, Detoxification, Stabilization
Small quantity designated hazardous or toxic chemicals will be stored in locked storage
units. Used or unused chemicals will be disposed or recycled in accordance with Federal,
State and County waste management requirements.
(b)Narrative Description
(i)Designated Hazardous Chemical Handling
Small quantity designated hazardous chemicals will be managed in accordance
with manufactures recommendation and stored in locked storage units.
(ii)Toxic and/or Acid-Forming Material Handling
Laboratory data indicates mine rock is not toxic or acid-forming(Section
6.4.21.14).
(iii)Off-site Impact Prevention
The following measures will be taken to prevent off-site impacts:
• Hydrocarbon and other chemicals of concern spill or releases prevention
measures include bermed storage areas, secondary containment structures,
sealed storage areas, and spill kits; and
• Distance to water courses,and depth to groundwater(Section 6.4.21(8))
will allow for immediate containment;
(c)Assessment of Potential Acid-Forming Materials
An assessment of potential acid forming mine rock is presented in Section 6.4.21(14).
Based on this assessment,a favorable Acid-Base Potential(ABP)was reported indicating
potentially acid-neutralizing material. The geochemical assessment demonstrates
1 Small quantities classified as hazardous and toxic chemicals to be stored include but not necessarily limited to
paints,antifreeze, herbicides, pesticides,lubricants,solvents
Exhibit U-EPP Amendment
112d-M-1981-185
May Day Idaho Mine Complex
March 10,2017
Page 3
