Environmental Protection Plan-Amendment
■ Within the May Day—Idaho fault zone,the identified saturated zone appears to be
located at approximately 8,700 feet(AMSL) ;
• Additionally,the faulting appears to have separated the Entrada Formation from the
aquifers within the La Plata alluvium,the Morrison Formation and the Mancos Shale;
and
• The Entrada Sandstone is not considered a significant aquifer in Colorado.
The conceptual model will be refined and updated as data becomes available.However,
based on currently available information,the following activities will be undertaken for the
protection of groundwater:
■ The groundwater quality point of compliance for the Idaho mine permit area will
be the Idaho Seep;
■ The groundwater quality point of compliance for the May Day Permit area will be
the monitoring well located adjacent to the May Day No. 2 mine portal. (See
Exhibit G Figure G-6);
■ DRMS compliance samples will be collected twice a year or as required by
CPDES permit; and
■ Routine surface and groundwater will also be sampled,analyzed and reported to
DRMS. The analyte list is summarized in Exhibit G.
Reference:
Colorado Division of Water Resources(2010)Colorado's Well View Web
http://www.dwr.state.co.us/WellViewWeb/.
(b)Groundwater Quality Data
Four groundwater monitoring wells are located within the mine permit area.Exhibit G-
Water Information provides a detailed groundwater discussion pertaining to well
completion, sampling events,well sampling Standard Operating Procedures(SOPS),field
sampling notes, and water quality characteristics
(c)Detection Limits
Analytical detection limits and groundwater parameters are consistent with Colorado
standard protocols and are discussed in Exhibit G—Water Information.
Exhibit U-EPP Amendment
112d-M-1981-185
May Day Idaho Mine Complex
March 10,2017
Page 19
