The mine was historically opened
in the early 1900 and closed in 1942. Historical mining activities occurred at the May Day 1,
May Day 2, Brooklyn and the surface"glory hole"mine workings. (See Figure D-1)The Idaho
Mine includes multiple mine development areas including Idaho 1, 2, 3 and 4, Grizzly, Chief,
Lamb, Derby and May Day 4. In the early 1980's,the mine was reopened and has operated
periodically over the last 30 years. In 2007,the Operator commenced redevelopment activities
with a conditional mine permit being approved on December 12,2011. The Operators
conditional mine permit was suspended on November 28, 2013 and reinstated on January 9th,
2017.
Since 2011,to address certain deficiencies attached to the"conditional"permit the following
tasks were completed:
• a new access road was constructed,;
• the May Day No. 1 portal and adit was stabilized,;
• the Chief portal was reconstructed,;
• two Little Deadwood Gulch channel sections were reclaimed;
• roads repaired; and
• erosion and sedimentation controls were installed.
Over the next 2-5 years,the Operator will be focused on the: (i)removal and processing surface
ore stockpiles (2,500 cubic yards) located within the Idaho designated affected area(ii)the
removal of underground stockpiles (7,400 cubic yards) located on the floor of the May Day No.
1 stope and, (iii)the development and mining of the area referred to as the Lamb Raise Stope
(See Figure D-2). Each of these three mine operation activity is outlined in greater detail herein.
The Idaho ore stockpile was established in early 1980 and the May Day No. 1 underground ore
stockpile is believed to have been formed prior to 1935. During stockpile removal and offsite
processing activities,the Operator will be:
112(d)Permit—May Day and Idaho Mine and Mill Application
3926 North State Highway 67,Sedalia,Colorado 80135
Phone:(303)832-7664
Revised:Amendment January 21,2017
