drop structure on the south embankment of the tailings facility dam. BMRI is currently waiting
for a response from CDRMS on the proposed Technical Revision.
During 2016, quarterly dam inspections were performed as required in Technical Revision 33.
The quarterly dam inspections were submitted previously to CDRMS and are also included
in Appendix A of this report.
Site Monitoring
During 2016, groundwater sampling and water level measurements were performed as
required in Technical Revision 32 (TR-32). Water level data and/or laboratory analytical
results were submitted to CDRMS on a monthly basis throughout 2016 and are also included
in Appendix A of this report. Sampling and laboratory analyses for groundwater monitoring
well M-14 also continued under the CDRMS approved Response Plan during 2016. M-14
will continue to be sampled and results reported as required in TR-32.
The Lined Tailing Facility's (LTF) collection pond underdrain was monitored monthly and
evacuated. The monthly leak-detection flows for 2016 ranged from a low of 25.2 gallons per
day (gpd) to a high of 32.5 gpd. The average monthly leak-detection flow for 2016 was
29.0 gpd. The monthly leak-detection flows were submitted previously in the Monthly
Reports and are also included in Appendix B of this report. The collection pond underdrain
water was sampled and analyzed quarterly and the laboratory analytical results were
submitted to CDRMS in the Monthly and Quarterly Sampling Reports and are also included
in Appendix B of this report.
The LTF underdrain flows were monitored monthly at the base of the embankment and the
flows for 2016 ranged from a low of 37.5 gpm to a high of 42.5 gpm. The monthly
average underdrain flow for 2016 was 39.8 gpm. The monthly underdrain flows were
submitted previously to CDRMS in the Monthly Reports and are also included in Appendix B
of this report.
The LTF system lysimeters were monitored monthly. The lysimeters were dry and no
groundwater was present for sampling or analysis in 2016. The monthly lysimeter readings
were submitted previously to CDRMS in the Monthly Reports and are also included in
Appendix B of this report.
Approximately 104 tons of water treatment plant sludge was transferred from the drying pad to
the tailings impoundment in 2016. This sludge was transferred in July of 2016. The monthly
sludge management information was submitted previously to the Division in the Monthly
Reports and is included in Appendix B of this report.
Technical Revisions/Permit Amendments
During 2016, BRMI managed the Rito Seco and West Pit alluvial hydrologic systems, in
compliance with Technical Revision 26. BMRI measured the West Pit backfill
monitoring wells weekly and the monthly average groundwater elevations were below the
Technical Revision 26 required level of 8,582 feet above mean sea level (amsl).
Annual Report and Fee-2016 4 AES,Inc.
Battle Mountain Resources-San Luis, CO March 2017
